New House No. 1
Infinity Lot 4
Kirkland, Washington
Sortun·Vos was invited to design a house above Lake Washington, south of downtown Kirkland. Part of a seven unit development, the site offers 180° views toward Seattle and the Olympics.
A major challenge was to preserve views for future neighboring houses while maximizing our own. A low pitched, green roof was chosen to blend with the surroundings. As this concept of multiple green-roof planes is carried through the development, a ‘patch-work quilt’ of planted roofs will result.
Placing the house on the west side of the lot allows for east and south sun exposure. Floor to ceiling screened windows maximize light and views. The main floor features a library, kitchen, breakfast nook, living, dining and powder room and a master suite with private patio.
The lower level contains additional bedrooms, home theater, game room, laundry, and bathrooms leading out to the patio, pool and landscaped yard.
