The Owners found a site with rugged terrain and two feeder streams running into a major creek along the bottom of the site. Access had been carved through the site where a large water main was installed, and later abandoned. The Architect assisted the Owner in vacating the abandoned water main right-of-way, and developing it as a driveway leading to the new house. Two separate parts of the house, located on either side of the driveway, are connected by a “bridge” containing a large, open living room. The space under the bridge provides cover over the garage and shop doors.

The roofs are sloped to capture light and focus views up into the trees, as well as to form a visual relationship with the terrain. A metal roof was chosen to shed leaves, and the sides of the bridge were also clad in metal to visually distinguish it from structures on either side.
