Bainbridge Island, Washington
On a pastoral site with a variety of
outlooks including a pond, forested hillside, open meadow
grass and sky, the Owner wanted to build the Northwest version
of a European stone house. Sortun-Vos incorporated generous
overhangs, timbers and angle braces to protect the house from
rainy weather. A central translucent roof captures as much
light as possible.
The plan is organized in three parts:
a living wing, bedroom wing, and connecting axis which contains
the entry, art gallery, and covered porch. The two wings are
made to contrast with the axis space by the use of different
roofing and siding.
Completed, 1993.
