This new home, designed for a young family is situated adjacent to Puget Sound. The innovative design won “Home of the Year” from the American Institute of Architects and the Seattle Times in 1994

Located on a small lot overlooking the water, the form of the house was initially influenced by restrictive setback and height limits. Its character was formed in response to the owner’s request for a “contemporary” style, and to its context in a neighborhood of apartment buildings and single family homes.

The use of inexpensive materials like cement siding, vinyl windows and fiberboard trim helped keep costs under control and provide an opportunity for textures and patterns, while the spare use of some more expensive materials at prominent locations helps provide a feeling of quality.
