Art Studio Conversion
Seattle, Washington
Contractor: Dirk Jozwowski, RenovationsConst.
Our clients wanted to create an art studio in place of their existing single car garage.
In carrying out this program Sortun·Vos created a small transition area that became a breakfast nook, back porch, and patio.
Our design will become a light filled studio that opens to the back yard gardens, patio. Natural light bathes the space via large doors at the north and east walls. Skylights and smaller windows at the west are designed to capture changing daylight throughout the day.
Since this small building is situated in the site's yard setbacks, it must also be usable as a garage. The swinging doors on the north wall are large enough to allow for car parking inside.
A trelllis on the north side of the patio creates the "outdoor kitchen" for the patio. Window patterns and other details on the studio and addition replicate those originaly found on the house.
